Losing a loved one is always hard, especially when that loss was the result of an overdose. Grieving that type of loss brings up complicated emotions and feelings of shame, blame, isolation, fear and guilt. Add to that the stigma associated with drugs and overdoses, and it becomes increasingly hard to find support from friends, the community, and even our own families.

Participants will be able to distinguish grief from mourning, and what makes each person's grief unique. Participants will understand how an accidental overdose death affects bereaved family members and will be able to help them navigate the funeral and memorial process. The opioid crisis is at an all time high, especially in Ohio, who leads the nation in opioid deaths. Understanding what these bereaved families are going through will help funeral directors have a more compassionate approach to funeral planning and supporting families.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Each person should register independently. Please note that credit (if available) is only provided to registered attendees participating at their own computer and/or phone using their confirmation login link. The link should not be shared with others, it is unique to you.
